AUDITIONS

Theatre Guild is preparing for 2021 with several new live-stream productions as they continue their unique presentation of original and familiar plays in their @Home series. Launched last year as our community and our world adjusted to new standards of health and safety, the Guild performed classic stories by Edgar Alan Poe, the suspenseful “Sorry, Wrong Number”, the intimate stories of women from all walks of life in “Talking With” and even live improv shows and our 24-Hour Film Festival.

The @Home series presents familiar and new challenges for theatrical productions, and we are eager to get 2021 underway, as we announce auditions for the dramatic comedy “Educating Rita” by Willy Russell.

Auditions for “Educating Rita” will be held online Feb. 15 and 16 from 6 to 8 pm. The play is a witty yet poignant story of a working-class woman’s desire to open her world and her mind through pursuit of an Open University qualification. Rita is a twenty-six-year-old working-class hairdresser, while her tutor Frank, is a cynical and combative frustrated poet and academic, who works as a lecturer at a London university.

The production will be directed by Joe Powell and will be streamed live through the Guild’s ongoing @home virtual series. Women aged 20 to 40 and men aged 30 to 50 are encouraged to audition. Auditions will be held via Zoom. Click on this link – https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7845635244 to audition between 6 and 8 pm Feb 15 and 16. The Guild is also seeking technical crew for camera operators, video switchers, lighting, sound, set work and more as they continue to expand their live-streaming online productions, no previous experience is necessary. For more information, you can contact the Director at 423-839-4724.

The Guild remains committed to performances that insure the health and safety of our performers, crews and especially our audiences. Join our live chats during shows, stay connected via our Facebook page and help make this challenging time a rewarding and powerful experience for our community.

As always, we appreciate your financial support for donations, advertising and sponsorships for our shows – our typical programs presented to audiences now are part of the online experience as ads appear during live-stream events. If you wish to advertise with us, contact morristowntheatreguild@yahoo.com or call the Guild direct at 423-586-9260.

Thank you for supporting your hometown theatre and our @Home program.
